The Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU Linz) and the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) are pleased to announce the establishment of a joint Doctoral College in Computational Sustainability. This initiative brings together the complementary strengths and expertise of both institutions with the objective of creating and validating transdisciplinary knowledge in key research areas of Computational Sustainability. The overarching vision of the Doctoral College is to advance a world in which computer science plays a central role in supporting, driving, and promoting global, regional, and national efforts toward sustainable development.
We invite applications from highly qualified and motivated candidates who wish to contribute to excellence in research within the emerging field of computational sustainability.
The successful candidate will undertake a doctoral research project entitled “Reducing the Computational Complexity of Dynamic Global Vegetation Models.” A summary of the proposed research project is available at http://www.computational-sustainability.at/. The dissertation will be jointly supervised by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ronny Ramlau (JKU Linz) and Prof. Dr. Kevin Sturm (TU Wien) and conducted at the Institute for Industrial Mathematics.
The Institute for Industrial Mathematics is dedicated to the development and application of advanced mathematical methodologies to address industrial and technological challenges. The Institute maintains strong collaborations with industry partners and provides students with rigorous, application-oriented training. Its primary areas of focus include mathematical modeling, simulation, and data-driven analysis in domains spanning the economy, technology, and the environment.
