The Future Energy Lab (FEL) works at the intersection of social sciences, economics, and energy policy. Its research promotes the transition to a more sustainable energy system through the application of data-driven economic and social analyses, often in conjunction with technical engineering approaches. The FEL develops incentive systems that aim to align the collective pursuit of climate neutrality with the goals of individual citizens and businesses. Its work takes into account data in the broader regulatory context of European Union energy policy, with a focus on multi-level governance, market dynamics, and human behavior. The interdisciplinary team combines expertise from various fields to address these challenges. The FEL collaborates with national and international companies, policymakers, and NGOs to help shape the future of energy production, distribution, and use.

Job Duties::

  • Planning and conducting independent research in the field of economic and social analyses related to energy transition
  • Development of research projects, from initial conception to execution, aligning with FEL's mission and objectives
  • Writing and submitting grant applications to secure funding for FEL’s research initiatives.
  • Active participation in generating research findings, including writing manuscripts and submitting them for publication in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Attendance at national and international conferences to present research and collaborate with experts in the field
  • Teaching courses or seminars related to the FEL's research focus, contributing to the academic growth of students
  • Support for students and collaborative partners in data collection and analysis efforts
  • Support in outreach activities to disseminate research findings and promote the institute's mission

Your Qualifications::

  • The successful candidate must hold a Diploma/Master’s degree in Economics, Social Science, Data Science, or a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in econometrics, with the ability to apply quantitative methods to complex social and economic issues.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R, Python, or Stata for data analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, suitable for grant applications and writing of academic manuscripts language (at least language skill level B2). German language skills, or the willingness to acquire them, are advantageous
  • Strong motivation to contribute to academic and policy-oriented publications
  • Commitment to the values and mission of FEL, including a genuine interest in shaping future energy policies for societal benefit
