The research group of the tenure-track position “Alternatives to Animal Testing” offers a position as a medical-technical assistant to work on exciting topics in an ambitious research team. The offered position is for 20h (2 persons) or 40h.

Job Duties::

  • Conducting cell culture experiments and routine tasks (particularly with stem cells and cardiomyocytes)
  • Experimental investigation of cell biological questions, including data analysis
  • Supporting technical applications associated with cell culture (e.g., microfluidics, biosensing, 3D printing)
  • Testing and optimization of protocols
  • General laboratory maintenance and management, oversight of resources, and ordering supplies
  • Technical responsibility for the operation and maintenance of large-scale research equipment
  • Maintenance of computer-based databases for materials and protocols within the research group
  • Documentation and preparation of protocols and reports
  • Training and onboarding of new members of the research group
  • Organizational and administrative tasks
  • Regular opportunities to participate in relevant conferences
  • Deepening in methods according to individual interest

Your Qualifications::

  • Completed training as a medical-technical assistant, biomedical analyst (BMA), or a comparable scientific qualification (proven through appropriate degree and/or work experience)
  • Proficiency in cell culture techniques
  • Confident handling of standard laboratory tasks such as concentration calculations, weighing, sterilization; ability to read, understand, and implement protocols
  • Desirable: knowledge and experience in the following areas: stem cell cultures and differentiation (iPSC, cardiomyocytes), microfluidics, 3D cell culture, co-cultures, metabolic analyses, cell culture analytics (e.g., fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, CRISPR/Cas9, PCR), statistical and image analysis software
  • Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with common MS Office applications
  • Confident communication skills in German and English for interaction within an international work environment (minimum English level B2 if German is C1; alternatively, minimum English level C1 and German A2)
  • High level of accuracy and reliability in both supervised and independent work
  • Independent thinking, understanding of scientific contexts, and sound common sense
  • Enthusiasm for learning new skills
  • Strong team spirit and social competence
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment (medicine, biology, engineering, bioinformatics, etc.)
  • Motivation, commitment, precision, flexibility, and resilience
